Built in 1841 as the Auckland Hotel, The Lalit Great Eastern Hotel has a mix of contemporary, Victorian and Edwardian architecture and makes for an impressive sight. The confectionary shop by David Wilson which was later transformed into a hotel, was a popular meeting place for the officers of the East India Company and referred to as the Jewel of the East by Mark Twain.
