TRH Ramgarh

We are at KMVN Ramgarh while writing this review. Stayed here for 2 nights with family (consisting of children and senior citizens). It is a small guest house comprising of beautiful rooms. Each room is having private balcony with splendid views of lush green mountains. Location is the trump card of this guest house. You can feel the calmness. Food quality/ variety/ price is same as the other KMVN guesthouses. Staff is also helpful. Part of this guest house is being renovated hence construction material / debris may be seen. Comfortable bed, basic western toilet, TV, geyser etc are provided. Rooms are located at heights, which may be difficult for some people. But once you get into the room all cons are neutralized. Overall: A good experience.

The location of the Rest House is very strategic as one can view valley from one end and the ranges from the other. The staff is very welcoming, hospitable and warm. The best place to enjoy the nature.

I and my wife decided to visit Ramgarh on a whim from 17th to 21st September, 2019. Honestly, we were apprehensive about everything from food to service to clean bedsheets. I have low expectations from govt enterprises. On the 16th night we had had first hand experience of unwashed linen in the Second AC of Ranikhet Express. We had slight difficulty in locating it. For general information, it is located near the police Station. First climb is to the Police Station, the second to KMVN and the third to the Horticultural farm, and the relics of Gurdev Rabindranath Tagore's old abode. Only ruins remain. Yet they say, he wrote his Geetanjali here. By the way, Mahadevi Verma also stayed in Ramgarh. The KMVN people guided us all the way. Really nice room. Super Deluxe room costs only ₹1500 including GST. Food is simple, they ask us what to cook, and then get fresh vegetables from the market. Yes! Menu says, ₹35 for a Parantha and ₹15 for a cup of tea. All around trees, fields and mountains. Birds sing the whole day. If the weather is cleat, you can see the snow-clad cliffs yonder. We have been to many places in Kumaun. Nothing as peaceful as this. So, if you love loud music and parties, avoid this heaven. Kumaun people are of course great.

First things first, 'Why 5 stars?' I stayed at this place way back in 2008. At that time of the year I had just finished my 10th board exams and at that age you don't decide places, it's your family that does the job. This resthouse wasn't expanded so much at that time, just 4-5 rooms with the same dining and reception area! 11 years, they have surely leaped forward keeping up with time. Guys, you don't go to a decent resthouse and expect 5 star like quality. My rating is exactly according to the resthouse I've stayed at. Some might complain about the infrastructure, the quality, facilities etc. but why? This is not a private or a luxury resort that's gonna change things every month or every year as per people's demands. After coming back from the trip I realized, that we can only complain till the time we are in that moment, after that it's all forgotten and only your memories remain. Year 2008 till now, they have expanded the area, more rooms are available now, nice and clean bedsheets placed neatly in every room with tea and water service just a call away. Okay ya sometimes your tea or water jug might get delayed but then it happens, just move on! The staff at KMVN works hard and are always at your service, and their efforts need to appreciated. All rooms have their own balconies, however if you want a clear view of the hills right in front of your eyes, rooms at the uppermost level are perfect. Nice and clean bathrooms with geysers, tables and chairs and a dressing just improve the overall experience of staying. Of course you have your own T.V! Bingo....! One major thing that needs to be highlighted and is a must learn for other resort owners is how well 'KMVN' has managed to keep the flora and fauna intact. The flowers, the trees, the orchards are just as they should be and were 11 years back. KMVN has always been a peaceful paradise and it still is. It's not hard to wonder why famous personalities like Rabindranath Tagore and Mahadevi Verma just fell in love with Ramgarh. Speaking of Rabindranath ji, trek to Tagore Top is just adjacent to the resthouse entrance and it should be a must in your 'to-do list'! No complaints about the food, it's pretty basic but homecooked and my stomach filled. The resthouse is rich in flora and is surrounded by trees all around so it's obvious to see insects after rains. Again no complaints on that part, coz I wasn't expecting a private luxury resort treatment. All in all KMVN is a nice decent resthouse in Ramgarh, it gives you the best possible view, the staff is hard working and courteous and if you just wanna end up relaxing away from the city chaos this is your stop! Avery good place to stay away from the crowded city between natural beauty. The Hotel is on main road on some height. The view of Himalaya is visible from Rooms. Way to Tagore Top is at walking distance from Hotel. Some shops in nearby are available but hotel is away from city.
