Mountain Retreat Ooty by Hill Country

The resort is an idyllic setting on a hill slope overlooking the uninterrupted, breath-taking view of Ketti Valley along with unkempt shola vegetation, Nilgiris, eucalyptus/pine woods, tea gardens and a slice of Nilgiri Mountain Railway track. If you are lucky, you can witness surreal sunrises and sunsets from the comfort of your tastefully done rooms, suites and cottages relishing your beverage. That’s what Mountain Retreat is all about. In 2019, we visited the gorgeous Hill Country at Kodaikanal. With Ooty in mind, we straight away searched for the Hill Country resort at Ooty without wasting any time. The hospitable and articulate Ashokji at the Reception was kind enough to guide us in every possible way. We stayed for 4 nights at the resort and covered every possible nook and corner of the resort. The quiet, pollution-free, and picturesque mountain trails and pathways, flower beds were to ‘die’ for. The soothing instrumentals played and being heard from everywhere of the resort uplifted the spirits and made our stay worthwhile. We got drenched in the rain, soaked in the sun, got enveloped in the mist enjoying every bit of it. We enjoyed the bonfire to the hilt overlooking the well-lit spectacular Ketti Valley during festivity. Chef Rajan & team were instrumental enough to present mouth-watering dishes. One night, we relished finger-licking fish curry. Srini anna, Prem Kumarji and other staff were friendly, and ever-smiling, always reaching out to help. Happy Festivity!

This resort comes few KM's before you hit Ooty from Meetupalayam. It's away from the crowd and traffic of Ooty and it's not visible from the road, it's a good 1 KM away from the main road - approach road is not so great especially at nights it gets difficult. So if you do not have a own car and dependent on taxi / cab, then you will be stuck in the hotel. But it's not a bad place to be stuck in.... amazing view, peaceful resot, not many room but very good landscaping... elders may have a challenge as it's a walk to any room or restaurant which is at different elevations. The place is breathtaking with amazing view and you can spend the day by just looking at the valley, clouds etc., if sight seeing is not on your cards and you want a peaceful place away from crowd, this is ideal. Note, the resort do not serve alcohol and the market area for any other hotels for food is not close-by. Approx 5km+ for anything - hence my above comment on taxi/cab dependency. Rooms are big, wash rooms are clean.... I was in the resort during off season. Service was excellent, food quantity in most of the order is sufficient for 2 people, good house keeping and service was excellent. The resort lawns and common areas are kept well and beautiful, however the room may need some renovation. It's not bad but some fine will make it look more luxury - no complaints and I will go back again.

We stayed here for two days and enjoyed every bit of it. The hotel is located right at the top of the hill with a scenic beauty all around. I could see the lush green valley with mountains from our room. The food quantity and quality is very good and reasonably priced. Peaceful, neat and clean property with children’s play area makes it a perfect hotel for family outings. Highly recommended !

The rooms are spacious.location is good as it is located on a hill so get a good view.bathrooms are very small in comparison to the size of room offered.the toiletries are not added each day.they provide only one litre of bottle even though they were charging for 3 adults and one child.i had to ask them for another bottle as they have charged separately for my elder child.Restaurant is too small which has only 5 table of around 4 seating each.wifi was working fine.In order to bath with hot water each person has to wait 20 mins.breakfast timings are 8am onwards and with so less Seating capacity it becomes a chaos by 8.45am.very clean resort every night they arranged bon fire.

A strict no-go hotel with highly priced and bad quality service. Pros: Good location. It is located at one of the hills and you can view whole valley from the place. Not recommended for old age people as you might have to walk a bit to reach to your room. Cons: Many of them. Highly overpriced with respect to the service provided. They charged nothing less than a 5 star hotel and service provided was below average. Rooms were clean but lighting wasnt enough. It was looking as if we came in a dungeon. If you want to stay there, better to take only PREMIUM room as that room only gets the sunlight and view. Difference in deluxe and premium is just the view and lighting. TV for the rooms werent working. When complained, that person took the set top box and never returned. Waiters are not professional and not trained enough to understand customer need. They dont even understand hindi. Restaurant is just a normal, small place where you would get very limited options. Breakfast had very less options. Omlette wasnt prepared properly and served half as if we were getting it for free. Dosa was also prepared badly. If you reach half an hour before the closing of breakfast, you wouldnt get juice and chutneys. Tea was highly overpriced with very bad taste. We got a very good prepared tea in INR 5 per cup at a roadside dhaba than what we got there. Overall, a good location and property but they have ruined it by pathetic service and that's why it is highly overpriced.
