  • Excellent staff, hotel needs improvement

I stayed in this hotel for 3 nights in Oct'21 traveling with family. This hotel probably deserves a 3.5 rating, but I am upgrading it to 4 due to the wonderful staff. The hotel is located just ahead of the North Sikkim taxi stand and right opposite the Raj Bhawan. MG marg is more than 2kms away from here and a reserved taxi would cost you 100rs while going and 150 while coming back. There's a newly opened shopping complex beside the hotel, but honestly it's more of a Reliance premise (reliance digital, trends and a supermart) along with a glitzy KFC. Firstly I had the booking here for a later date in October, but due to massive landslides in road to Gangtok much of my original tour plan had to be rescheduled. When I asked the hotel to prepone my booking, they happily did it. So thanks for that! Originally, I had a mountain view delux room booked, but they could only give me a non-view premium room due to my rescheduling. Upon request, one next night they moved me to the original booking of view rooms. I was impressed with the thorough sanitisation of the luggages being done during check in. The premium non-view rooms are pretty big, with spacious bathrooms. The view is that of the road in front. The delux room, while has a view of the mountains, is very cramped. There's hardly any space after the bed. The hotel needs a lot of maintenance and it is clear the management does not take good care of the hotel. Tap fittings were coming off in the bathroom, we had torn bedsheets. There was also a massive water issue as on our second last day in the hotel there was some leakage, ans watwr was not available from the evening to next day morning. They are also not running the elevators citing civid protocol! If you have elderly in your group it becomes difiicult to climb 2-3 floors to reach your room from reception which is at ground level (restaurant is even at -1) The biggest USP of the hotel is its staff. The staff was wonderful and was trying their best to help out the guests, when it was clear that they were short of bandwidth and handicapped by infrastructural issues at the hotel. All in all, okay hotel if you get a good deal. Staff is wonderful, but management needs to take care of the infrastructure.

This is a great hotel and the staff are very courteous and helpful. We took the best room overlooking the mountains but unfortunately the weather was cloudy. The food here unfortunately is very ordinary, best to avoid. Also, I stayed there for four nights, had asked them to clean the room once...came back and saw the room not cleaned.Otherwise the hotel is great!
  • Dirty Bed Linen

I booked this hotel because I wanted to stay in a budget hotel in Gangtok. What I did not know was that by booking Muscatel Bellevue, I would be taking a big health risk. To my horror, I found out that this hotel does not change bed linen (bedsheet, pillow covers, comforter cover) after their guests check out. Instead, they let the next guest use the same dirty bed linen. When I arrived at the hotel, I had travelled a long way, first by flight and then by road, and was exhausted. I jumped into bed right away and slept for the next few hours. However, when I woke up, my entire body felt itchy. I was wondering why, and suddenly, the bed looked like the prime suspect. It was already late in the evening and I got ready for visiting a casino. I returned the next morning and, this time, asked the hotel staff to change the bed linen before going to sleep. I could sleep ok after that. Later I extended my stay in the hotel by one day and that time I booked a "Premium" room. When I moved to the new room, I inspected the bed first. There were strands of human hair, stains, and some other dirt on the bedsheet. Again, they had given me a room with used bed linen. I called the reception lady and showed her the condition of the bed, following which she called the housekeeping staff to change the bed linen. The housekeeping staff changed the cover of the comforter and the bedsheet and started to leave. I asked them to change the pillow covers too. At that point, one of the two housekeeping ladies protested in Hindi - "Woh to change kiya tha." She had indirectly admitted that after the previous guests checked out, pillow covers were the only thing they had changed. The rest of the bedding was left unchanged. It was disgusting how this hotel was exposing the health of their guests to avoidable risk, particularly when the whole country was in the midst of a pandemic. On the face of it, Muscatel Bellevue may look like a "budget" hotel. But if a guest is not careful, a stay here may turn out to be their life's most expensive mistake. After checking out from Bellevue, I moved to Hotel Muscatel Grand Silk Route in Gangtok (April 2022) and experienced the same problem there. It was a non-refundable booking, and I had no choice. It seemed it was the policy of the Muscatel group, giving used bed linen to the guests. I will never book a Muscatel hotel in Sikkim in the future.
  • Muscatel Bellevue Gangtok - terrible experience

The Muscatel Bellevue Hotel at Gangtok doesn't deserve a rating ! Right from when we reached, there was no help offered by the hotel staff to help bring in our luggage. The rooms were small, had dirty linen, the bathrooms were stinking of cigarette smoke, the fixtures and faucets were broken and to top it all, they provided faulty heaters ( despite being paid for additional to the room tariff) The mountain facing rooms they projected as fit for triple sharing were tiny cubby holes and cannot fit an additional bed by any stretch of anyone's imagination. God help you if you have 3 pieces of luggage or more. The 1 series rooms I.e. 201, 301 etc are the only decent sized rooms and have space to move around. Breakfast is served In a tiny hall and had 3 options to choose from. Since the hotel seemed understaffed, everything took ages to arrive and led to our frustration. We found the front desk staff impolite, inefficient and most unhelpful. All in all a dreadful experience! I would not recommend this hotel to anyone!
