  • Is this the worst hotel in Candolim?

Stayed at the Alor Grande in Candolim for 2 weeks. After 1 day a party of 100+ Indians arrived from a call centre in Mumbai, they literally took over the hotel. My partner and her daughter were sunbathing round the pool. The Indian men were openly ogling them in their bikinis, taking photographs of them and even sitting on the end of their sunbeds. They felt so intimidated that they never used the pool area again. The pool area itself quickly became filthy there were empty cans, bottles and chocked ashtrays all over, even in the bushes. When this party left another arrived and it all started again. The hotel left a lot to be desired,it was not very clean and the toilet seat in out bathroom was stuck down.To add insult to injury my partner discovered that it was possible to see into our shower from outside. The hotel staff did there best but they were overwhelmed. The swimming pool was unusable(even had we wanted to) because there was a scum of dirty oil floating on the surface. It was not cleaned during our stay.Breakfast was horrible when you could get it and service non existent.I have been travelling to Goa for over 30 years and have never had such an awful hotel.I suggest that people avoid it like the plague.

The hotel staff is rude. They will drink your blood when they want you to checkout but when you call them for any issue in the room, they will not respond at all. They will turn deaf ear. Room is full of smell. AC doesn’t work. AVOID The hotel.

When we checked into our room, as soon as we opened the door, there was an overwhelming smell of mildew and dampness. The walls had mildew EVERYWHERE, and the room easily was always 10 degrees warmer than it was outside. Our AC didn’t work either, so there was no relief from the overwhelming dampness and humidity inside. We couldn’t open windows because the whole hotel is absolutely swarming with mosquitoes. (There were even a few dead ones on our bed upon arrival) The walls had small bugs crawling all over them. They had showed us another room that they deemed “better”, but it was exactly the same. The dampness and mildew of the room seeped into all of my items I brought- even some that I had left packed away into my case- and reek of mildew. The staff was not in the least bit helpful most of the time. I also went down for breakfast one morning (which is a super basic breakfast mainly of just toast and beans), and got in line behind some Indians. I was told that line “wasn’t for me” and got whisked away to a back room that seemed for whites people only(?!?). It did not seem like I was allowed to sit outside with the rest of the people. Also, there were always men hanging around the outside of our rooms which was a bit unsettling for three women traveling together. Overall, the worst experience in my traveling I have ever had. If I could give it a negative rating, I would. AVOID AT ALL COSTS.
