Come on, let your hair down a bit.
Taj Bengal, a theatre of hospitality enacts a new series of “pampering art” to infuse the essence of rejuvenation. Wah Tajness!
Though it is my first visit to Taj Bengal, Kolkata, its memories are still reverberating in and around me. Located in the soul of downtown Kolkata, this property is a cynosure to visitors. Prominent landmarks such as the famed Eden Gardens stadium, Victoria Memorial and Royal Calcutta, and Racecourse are within walkable distance. The commercial centre of the city is just three km away through the airport takes a 45 minutes drive. An infectious smile welcomes you at the entry, and you are treated royally, and the indulgence begins. The employees here are attuned to indulging the guests with all methods and means available to them. They sometimes go out of the way to see that the guests are gratified in every way. While the property undergoes renovation, employees are upgraded to advanced hospitality.
The art of hospitality is getting redefined by the actions of the staff at the Taj Bengal.
Hospitality Attitudes:
During my visit, there were many instances where I felt that the staff went out of their way to satisfy my desires or demands. I have requested a port wine of my choice which was not available at the hotel. However, Mr.Afzal Khan the F&B Manager took an extra stride and got it.
Added to it, was my visit to Sonargaon, a restaurant of North-west Frontier cuisines, normally opens at 7 pm and when I entered at 6.45 pm staff there battled no eyelid and got me a salad from another restaurant to quench my hunger, thanks to Afzal’s grooming. Sapan Giri, the chef who made his delectable at Sonargaon deserves special mention
To quote another one, when I wanted something to be delivered to my driver, Mr. Arjun from the front office went out of the way to satisfy my many unreasonable demands should be commended for his extraordinary spirit and devotion to hospitality.
Vital one of the stewards was asked to serve sandwiches out of the track, he delivered apart he took care to see that typical south Indian coffee is also served
Another rare gesture of Mr Raja from IRD is quotable. When I was checking out from the hotel I was longing to have Misty Dahi, a melting delicacy of West Bengal. Raja packed it in a potable bowl, and my travel to the airport melting.. melting and melting.
Rama Rao, sous chef, when requested made a special fish curry for the morning BF,(out of the menu) and tomato chutney which I had not tasted before.
Of the restaurants, Sonargaon is the cherry on the top of the cake. There are many delicacies made from Hilsa fish on offer. The ambience of the hotel is reminiscent of olden times- mud pasted walls, artistic paintings, typical settings- to bring about the village atmosphere. Every dish churned out by this restaurant reflects the legacy of Kolkata. The staff at the hotel particularly Mr. Praveen and Mr. Sandeep Chakraborthy deserves a pat on the back for being very caring and supportive.
If you are yeah Chinese food lover please don't forget to visit Chinoiserie, an address for veritable flavours of Sichuan and Canton chargers. Meet Gopal with a mischievous smile ( to empty your wallet?) Fiza Wahid but never miss Himadri SekharParia, the tantalising cuisine maker, for his Bengal- palate-teasing sauces, a challenge to health lovers.
Other artists of hospitality:
Shankar, Dhananjay, Shilpi and Subash from Spa, Roshni, Veena, Indrani, Raj, Cruz, and Malavika from IRD (In-room Dining), Ahmed from the laundry. Babi ,Montu,Nazir,Malkit from HK, Dipangana, at the business center.
Chef Rajender Verma’s delectable and unusual Indian style tomato chutney is a bonus to your dining menu.
Interestingly they have been refurbishing their outlook on customer care management. To pamper their committed loyal customers who have been sailing with the taj group of hotels for ages, the coddling has gone beyond any milestones. Yes, very true unless you relish it, you will not understand what I am talking about. Being a member of Taj Inner Circle I enjoy greater benefits and privileges- Price discount, Room Upgradation, Extra amenities Lounge access and complimentary accompaniments plus free pour during happy hours.

Finally, all the credit goes to the team leader Mr.Vijay Sri Kent, a seasoned painter of hospitality, who keeps his eyes and ears around his head- only to extend the warmth of care.
Chillax! Footloose and fancy-free!!
